Introducing: The Wachusett Theme

As you can tell, I’ve updated the wyatts.org theme. I spent a decent chunk of time trying to decide what to do stylistically … I had doodled cartoon characters of everyone in the family … I tried a brown/green trees theme in the spirit of family trees … but I eventually decided to focus the main element around a photo I found of Wachusett Reservoir in West Boylston, MA.

The Wachusett Reservoir is an ideal motif for wyatts.org. All of the children grew up a 1/2 mile from it, learned how to fish there, and have driven over the reservoir’s Route 12 bridge thousands of times. Carrie used to bike around the reservoir and it’s now become my favorite jogging route. Furthermore, the family-favorite Bob’s Hot Dogs is next to the Reservoir; a hot dog on a nice day there is simply unbeatable.

On the technical aspect of the theme, I just want to say two things. First, I’m so glad that Creative Commons exists and that the photographer, HeartLover1717, decided to make their work available. Secondly, this was my first use of style-sheet transparency … and I can’t believe the dumb-tricks you have to go through to get the text to be full-opacity over a transparent background. How has someone not fixed this yet?

New theme coming…

I thought I’d try the whole “if I blog it publicy, maybe I’ll do it” thing to get me to make a new theme for this site.   I recently used the wyatts.org theme for my own zacharywyatt.org site … so it seems like a good time to update this one.  I’d like to make it ‘warmer’ and more ’family-like’ … although I’m a minimalist in general, so we’ll see how that goes.  Anyway, now that I’m on record with this post, I’ll have to do it.
